WASHINGTON, DCToday, Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks (R-IN05) issued the following statement regarding President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran, commonly known as the Iran Deal, and re-impose sanctions lifted under the deal:

“The Iran Deal was a flawed agreement since its inception. It did not address Iran’s dangerous ballistic missile program, allowed Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon in less than eight years and manipulated inspector accessibility to Iran’s nuclear facilities. The United States cannot be a partner with a country who has yet to cease their ballistic missile program and in consequence, serves as a direct threat to Israel’s national security. Iran also continues to perpetrate human rights violations and aids illicit, terrorist activity in the surrounding region, including Syria, Yemen and Lebanon. Iran has proven to be an untrustworthy partner on the international stage and today’s announcement reinforces our commitment to upholding and defending peace and stability around the world.”
