WASHINGTON, D.C.— Rep. Susan Brooks (R-IN) is pleased to announce that her guest for President Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress tomorrow is Elaine Bedel. Bedel, an entrepreneur who founded Indianapolis-based Bedel Financial Consulting Inc. in 1989, was recently appointed by Governor Eric J. Holcomb in January 2017 to serve as president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, the state’s lead economic development agency.

“I’m honored that Elaine will be joining me for the President’s address to Congress,” Brooks said. “She is a great example of the thriving small business and entrepreneurial climate in Indiana. After establishing and leading a financial consulting business for more than 25 years, Elaine is taking on a new role, serving business owners both large and small across the state as President of the IEDC. Her experience, expertise and vision will help build a brighter future for Hoosiers, encourage investment and growth in Indiana and strengthen our state’s economy. The Administration and Congress are focused on creating good jobs and opportunities for growth for every citizen, and I asked Elaine to join me so that we can hear from the President about ways we can all work together to succeed and continue to bring jobs and investment to Indiana.”

“I am honored to attend the President’s address and for the opportunity to share Indiana’s story with Rep. Brooks and leadership in Washington,” said Bedel. “As an entrepreneur and small business owner, I am passionate about the needs, challenges and opportunities faced by Indiana’s most important asset – job creators. This is a unique opportunity to showcase the state’s business climate, which now ranks first in the Midwest and fifth in the nation, as well as the dedication and commitment of Hoosier companies that are contributing to Indiana’s economic momentum.”

Prior to her current role, Bedel served as president, chief executive officer and chief compliance officer of Bedel Financial Consulting. Bedel is an author of a personal finance book and is a nationally-recognized speaker, providing financial expertise at conferences hosted by Schwab Impact, the University of Indianapolis and the Financial Planning Standards Board.

Throughout her career, Bedel has been recognized for dedication to her profession and her community. Bedel was recognized as a 2014 Enterprising Woman of the Year by Enterprising Women Magazine and received a Trailblazer Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). She was inducted into the Business Hall of Fame by the Junior Achievement of Central Indiana and received the Financial Planning Association’s “Heart of Financial Planning” Award in 2013.

Bedel is a graduate of Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana, and earned an MBA from Butler University in Indianapolis.
