Another Stab at Obamacare Repeal? Pence at Center of Behind-the-Scenes Discussions
Vice President Pence is in the thick of Republican discussions about another try at repealing the federal health care law.
Republicans appeared to throw in the towel after being forced to pull their first attempt at a health care bill from the floor last month. But Indiana Congresswoman Susan Brooks says Pence has been acting as a mediator to try to iron out differences to organize a second try.
Brooks says the conservative House Freedom Caucus's call for a simple repeal is "a nonstarter." She says protections for preexisting conditions and people in their early 20s need to be preserved in a replacement bill. But while Brooks says there's bipartisan agreement on some changes like repealing the medical device tax, she says changing provisions one at a time isn't enough. She argues taxes, fines and mandates are too threaded through the infrastructure of the law to be altered individually.
